    • To have GD functioning, you need to install graphic libraries (libjpeg, libtiff,libpng). To do this, according to instructions you need Fink. I downloaded Fink binary but got error "This Fink Installer is for OS X 10.4 only", despite running exactly that version on my IBook. After Software Upgrade (Finder > Software Update) to 10.4.6, Fink installation went fine.
    • Another obstacle in following the above recipe I found with libpng. Installation of libjpeg and libtiff, using Fing, went fine. However, after executing, as suggested, 'shell> sudo /sw/bin/fink install libpng', I got 'Failed: no package found for specification 'libpng'!'
