To install MediaWiki on my IBook I needed GD support in my php. That meant recompilation. I went to http://developer.apple.com/internet/opensource/php.html and followed instructions, starting with php source download.

- To have GD functioning, you need to install graphic libraries (libjpeg, libtiff,libpng). To do this, according to instructions you need Fink. I downloaded Fink binary but got error "This Fink Installer is for OS X 10.4 only", despite running exactly that version on my IBook. After Software Upgrade (Finder > Software Update) to 10.4.6, Fink installation went fine.
