ML110
HP ML110 G3 installation using USB disk
SHORT: I could not install win2003 server on HP ML110 G3 using USB stick or just any full speed HP USB diskette drive
ML110 G3 comes without a floppy drive and without a fdd controller. I wanted to install windows 2003 server and have found that I could not accomplish it without "Drive A", where drive A had to be floppy disk. ML110 comes with SATA disks and embedded controller which require additional drivers when installing windows. That is usually done by pressing F6 during initial installation when prompted so and providing drivers through a shortly following dialogue. I downloaded the drivers and had them ready on USB drive.
Pressing F10 at boot time I entered setup and confirmed that USB configuration was adequate.
Windows installation started and took the drivers at first, but when proceeding with setup, came back and insisted that drivers to be installed be on "A drive"
After few tries at that point I gave up trying with thumb drive and tried with USB floppy but had the same luck. The drive used was labeled "Replace with HP spare 254304-001". Quite desparate I gave a try to alternative HP USB floppy drive, part number 19308803-48.
It worked.
